Reacher Star"s New Movie Box Office Topples Spider-Man Movie For Third Place

Summary
  • Ordinary Angels beats Madame Web at the box office with $6.5 million in expected weekend earnings.
  • Based on a true story, the film focuses on a snow-related disaster in 1994 and stars Alan Ritchson.
  • Madame Web falls to fourth place as audiences show more interest in other movie options like Bob Marley and Demon Slayer.
Alan Ritchson's Ordinary Angels is crushing Madame Web at the box office. Based on a true story, the former movie focuses on a snow-related disaster in 1994 that saw one ordinary woman help support a father and his sick daughter. The movie has been pitted against Bob Marley: One Love and the latest Sony's Spider-Man Universe effort, Madame Web, which features Dakota Johnson as its titular hero.
Madame Web has been the subject of much consternation, and its box office results have suffered for it. Despite needing an estimated $200 million to break even, this weekend saw Ordinary Angels take the third place spot at the box office, while Madame Web fell to fourth. The former is expected to have $6.5 million on the weekend, while the latter should take $5.5 million. Both sit behind first place Bob Marley and second place Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training.
How Is Ordinary Angels Beating Madame Web? Close It is certainly a rare occurrence for a drama movie to beat a superhero blockbuster at the box office. The disparity between their budgets is often stark, and superhero movies tend to have a box office draw that true-story drama movies simply do not. Between Ordinary Angels and Madame Web, that trend has flipped, with the latter suffering a massive second-week drop of 64%. Ordinary Angels, meanwhile, benefited from this week being its opener, as it launched to impressive numbers for a relatively low-budget drama.
2:02 Related All 10 Superhero Movies With A Lower Rotten Tomatoes Score Than Madame Web Madame Web is one of the worst-reviewed superhero movies of all time, but there are still 10 more that have lower Rotten Tomatoes scores.
Even setting aside the differences in their release dates, the critical responses have been particularly different. The Ordinary Angels reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, as the movie has secured an 81% Tomatometer score from critics and a near-perfect 99% audience score on review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes. By contrast, the panned Madame Web has a 13% Tomatometer score from critics and an audience score of only 56%.
Your browser does not support the video tag. The quality contrast between the two movies is likely to further increase the box office disparity in the next week. Positive word-of-mouth could encourage more viewers to see Ordinary Angels. Madame Web is unlikely to experience the same positive treatment, given its poor reviews. Ritchson's latest drama could continue to enjoy its success, but Dakota Johnson's blockbuster is more likely to suffer the same fate as Morbius.
