Star Wars Is Finally Uniting The Mandalorians & Jedi - 1,000 Years After Their Division

Summary
  • Mandalorians and Jedi, who were once bitter rivals, will likely unite in the upcoming Mandalorian movie, creating a dynamic union of heroes from both groups.
  • The rift between Mandalore and the Jedi Order lasted for centuries, but there were instances of Jedi supporting Mandalore during the Clone Wars and Dark Times.
  • Grogu and Sabine Wren serve as bridges between Mandalorians and Jedi, with Grogu becoming a Mandalorian and Sabine choosing to follow the Jedi path. They embody this new era of Mandalorian-Jedi unity.
While they've been divided for centuries in the Star Wars canon, Mandalorians and Jedi will soon unite more than ever before with the upcoming Mandalorian movie. As seen in both Ahsoka and The Mandalorian shows on Disney+, the stage has been set for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) to kickstart a new galactic conflict with the New Republic before the events of the sequel trilogy. To that end, it seems that both Mandalorian and Jedi heroes will be truly united at last (including unique heroes belonging to both groups).
Having been announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, a Mandalorian movie is currently in production from Lucasfilm with director Dave Filoni. While there haven't been very many details regarding the release date, plot, or official cast, it's been said that the movie will bring together everything seen in all the New Republic-set Star Wars shows released thus far. To that end, this implies that the movie will likely feature a dynamic union of Mandalorian and Jedi heroes in the established Star Wars canon.

Mandalorians & Jedi Have Been Divided For 1,000 Years They Were Ancient Rivals (But Tarre Vizsla Was An Exception) According to Star Wars' ancient history, Mandalorians and Jedi were once bitter rivals who at one point were engaged in an all-out Mandalorian-Jedi War during the Old Republic Era. To that end, much of the Mandalorians' advancements in technology and weaponry originated from these conflicts with the warrior-race seeking to counter the abilities of the Jedi and their command of the Force (not to mention their lightsabers). Ultimately, the Mandalorians were defeated by the Jedi Order with a victory that left the majority of their planet an uninhabitable wasteland, hence Mandalore's major population centers being hermetically sealed off via massive domes.
However, the only confirmed example of Mandalorian-Jedi unity from this era came in the form of Tarre Vizsla who lived over 1,000 years before the events of the original trilogy. The creator of the legendary Darksaber, Tarre Vizsla was the first Mandalorian to be inducted into the Jedi Order. However, Mandalorians broke into the Jedi Temple to reclaim the Darksaber following Vizsla's passing.
Despite the official end of the Mandalorian-Jedi War, the rift between Mandalore and the Jedi Order was present in the centuries that followed. However, the Clone Wars and Dark Times did see a handful of cases in which singular Jedi offered support to the planet's leadership both during its age of peaceful neutrality and during its subsequent transition back into a warrior culture following the Clone Wars' end and the rise of the Empire.
