Why Smallville Season 11 Should Happen Close With the major popularity of Smallville, there are a lot of reasons why a sequel should happen for Welling's Superman. To begin with, the Smallville cast has expressed massive interest in actually reuniting and reprising their roles once again. After all, Welling and his Smallville co-star Erica Durance were game to show up for their cameo in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover almost a decade after the series finale.
Welling and Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor in the series, are currently trying to get a Smallville animated TV sequel show off the ground. The original creators, Al Gough and Miles Millar, are on board to continue the story, as are several actors. When Screen Rant spoke with Rosenbaum about his Smallville and Lex legacy earlier this year, the actor gave an update on the progression of the project, saying that, "When it's the right time, we'd like to go and do this; pitch to Warner Bros. It has to be the right time, and right now is not the right time."
In the current age of iconic shows getting series revivals, either for a limited event or multiple seasons, there seems ample opportunity for Warner Bros. to look at Smallville as the ideal property to bring back. With James Gunn's DC Universe coming up, DC Studios is still open for Elseworlds stories, which is where a Smallville revival would fit in perfectly. Hopefully, Smallville will make its way back to the silver screen sooner rather than later.
