Marvel Gave Fans Hope Kang’s Son Can Appear In The MCU

The title of the fifth Avengers movie - Avengers: The Kang Dynasty - created the impression that Kang's son will join the MCU. Set to release in 2026, The Kang Dynasty is in a position to serve as a large-scale villain team-up. Based on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's setup, multiple versions of Kang will work together to fight the Avengers and ensure their goals reach fruition.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty borrows its name from Marvel Comics' 2001 storyline Kang Dynasty, which saw Kang the Conqueror attack the Earth and face a multitude of iconic superheroes. This destructive storyline sees Kang the Conqueror rally many of Earth's villains to attack in his name. It appears as though this story will be changed significantly for the MCU, especially after Kang the Conqueror's apparent death in Quantumania, though one important aspect of the Marvel Comics event can still be introduced to the MCU.
Kang The Conqueror’s Son Is Important To Marvel Comics’ Kang Dynasty Story In the opening moments of Marvel Comics' Kang Dynasty, Kang the Conqueror arrives on Earth with his son, Marcus Kang a.k.a. the Scarlet Centurion. Kang became the first Scarlet Centurion following his defeat by the Fantastic Four as the Egyptian Pharaoh Rama-Tut, setting out to destroy the Avengers under his new guise. Not much is known about Marcus' ascension to the Scarlet Centurion mantle, as this version of him only appeared in the Kang Dynasty storyline. That said, he was a crucial character during the event, initially working with his father to conquer Earth, but later working against him thanks to his infatuation with Carol Danvers.
During Kang Dynasty, Kang and Marcus destroy the United Nations headquarters, wipe out Washington D.C., and instigate brutal attacks from other villains. After becoming obsessed with Carol, however, Marcus helps her thwart one of these attacks, which prompts his father to violently kill him in the story's final moments. This is not before Kang reveals that he'd created several other versions of Marcus, however, as he had been on the hunt for a worthy heir to his empire. Marcus, and the exploration of his relationship with Kang the Conqueror, is a major part of Marvel Comics' Kang Dynasty story, and shouldn't be forgotten for the MCU's Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
The Scarlet Centurion Debuted In The MCU’s Phase 5, But It Wasn’t Marcus So far, only two variants of Kang the Conqueror have had starring roles in MCU projects: He Who Remains in Loki, and Kang the Conqueror himself in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However, Quantumania's post-credits scenes also debuted several other variants of Kang, including Victor Timely in a tease for Loki season 2, and Immortus, Rama-Tut, and the Scarlet Centurion among the Council of Kangs. This version of the Scarlet Centurion wasn't Marcus Kang however, but rather a variant of Nathaniel Richards referred to as "Centurion." Even so, Centurion's appearance in Quantumania suggests that Marcus could have a future in the MCU.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would perhaps be the best place to debut Marcus Kang in the MCU, assuming Marvel Studios stay as true as possible to the Marvel Comics source material. If Kang is indeed dead after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, this storyline may be drastically different, potentially making the three new Kang variants as the main threats, as opposed to a more traditional take on Kang the Conqueror. With that being the case, there's a good chance the Centurion will be a key player. If so, one of the movie's subplots could see Kang's son usurping the Centurion and taking his title by the end of the film. In fact, he could even be the son of this particular variant.
Where Could Marcus Appear In The MCU Before Avengers 5? With so many variants of Kang the Conqueror fighting for screen-time in the MCU's Multiverse Saga, it's difficult to know where each one might pop up. Victor Timely is confirmed to appear in Loki season 2, and Rama-Tut is one of many villains rumored for the MCU's Fantastic Four reboot. However, when the conversation falls on Marcus Kang, it's more difficult to decipher which upcoming MCU projects he could debut in. This is particularly true as Marcus only appeared in one narrative in Marvel Comics, as he was introduced and died during the Kang Dynasty storyline, which is a sign he might only appear in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Marcus Kang's growing affection for Carol Danvers in Marvel Comics' Kang Dynasty storyline could perhaps create the opportunity for him to make a brief appearance in 2023's The Marvels. Phase 5's Captain Marvel sequel will see Danvers team up with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan in a space-faring adventure, and could be the perfect place for Marcus to sneakily make his MCU debut. Captain America also has a huge part to play in Marvel Comics' Kang Dynasty, so perhaps Marcus could find his way into Captain America: New World Order, Sam Wilson's big screen debut as Captain America, though admittedly, this seems a bit unlikely.
MCU Introducing Marcus Would Mirror Thanos’ Infinity Saga Story One of the most intriguing reasons for Marvel Studios to introduce Marcus Kang to the MCU would be to explore his relationship with Kang the Conqueror and further flesh out his character. So far, Kang has seemed simply like another otherworldly threat, lacking in any human qualities, which was the same for Thanos during the MCU's Infinity Saga. However, similarly to how Avengers: Infinity War delved a little deeper into Thanos' history with his adopted daughter Gamora, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty can reveal a familial relationship between Kang and Marcus. Marvel Comics' Kang Dynasty even ends with Kang killing Marcus, just as Thanos did to Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War.
At his core, Kang the Conqueror is a very human villain, and so needs to be treated as such. Granted, he's from the distant future and has access to advanced technology, but he has desires, ambitions, and flaws just like any other human, and this could be beautifully represented if Marvel Studios choose to display his relationship to his own family. Since Kang himself is a descendant of Reed Richards, the theme of family is bound to be an overwhelming presence in the MCU's Phase 6, and Marcus Kang's introduction in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would be a fantastic vessel for any exploration of that connection.
