Reynolds revealed as much by stating that McElhenney's cameo ended with his character being eaten by Alioth.
The actor also hinted at why the scene was cut. Reynolds states in the post that the sequence was not working as they originally intended and that it only stayed in the cut due to the loyalty the actor holds to McElhenney.
