I Think I"ve Figured Out Marvel"s Plan For Spider-Man 4 & I Couldn"t Be More Excited

Tom Holland"s Spider-Man 4 is finally beginning to come together, and details about the Marvel Cinematic Universe film are finally becoming clear. While the title of Spider-Man 4 has been rumored for some time, many of the most recent rumors seem to revolve around the film being called some variation of Spider-Man: King in Black. Whether or not this is the case, rumored details for the film do align with a story that will have something to do with Symbiotes, and details from other films may play into this.
Rumors concerning Venom: The Last Dance and its potential connection to the larger universe have existed for some time. While the Venom series was originally set up to be independent of Spider-Man, that changed with the ending scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Whether or not more links between the Venom character and Spider-Man are made in the MCU, elements of the antihero’s film appear to point directly to the plot of the upcoming Spider-Man sequel.
Everyone's Expecting Spider-Man 4 To Be A Multiversal Story All Three Spider-Men Are Likely To Appear In The Film Close Ever since the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, audiences have been excited for a street-level film from the famous character that feels faithful to the original comic book roots. Instead, it appears that something that combines street-level elements with multiversal storytelling in Spider-Man 4 is what audiences will actually receive. Following No Way Home"s incredible box office success, it makes sense that the studio wishes to replicate that with another film that is as big or even bigger.
While some audiences are still hoping for that street-level story, potentially teaming up Spider-Man with Daredevil and facing the Kingpin, the current focus of the Multiverse Saga suggests a more far-reaching story is on the horizon for the web-swinging hero. As a result, it seems that the potential Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield sequels are more likely to lead to a No Way Home sequel. This will certainly tie into the Multiverse Saga, and will likely see the Spider-Men all coming together to face a multiversal threat.
Venom 3 Is Officially Setting Up Knull To Return... & He's Definitely Multiversal Symbiote Stories In The MCU Will Likely Involve The Multiverse Close Knull, the King in Black, has been set up in the trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, with rumors suggesting the role might be played by Andy Serkis. While Knull is confirmed to be a component of the final Venom film, director Kelly Marcel has indicated future Knull plans beyond the film do exist. This has led to speculation that a multiversal Knull story in the MCU may be where the franchise is pointing toward.
Knull"s likely motivations, if the comics are anything to go by, is that he wishes to reclaim the Symbiote that is tethered to Eddie Brock. Knull is the god of symbiotes, and this unification makes sense with his character motivations. However, a part of the Venom symbiote was left behind in another universe in No Way Home. This suggests that Knull"s goal will have to take him out of his own universe and into the MCU, where he will likely cross paths with Peter Parker.
Thor: Love & Thunder Sets Up Knull's 616 Role Too All-Black The Necrosword Was Wielded By Gorr The God Butcher Close In Thor: Love and Thunder, the villain Gorr the God Butcher got his hands on All-Black the Necrosword. While in the film this was seen as being from the Dark Shadow Lord, in the comics, Gorr acquires this sword from Knull. Following this, there is already a connection between Knull and the MCU, where the Necrosword has been left behind after Gorr"s defeat. This incredible weapon gives access to the Shadow Realm, including the ability to summon and control Shadow Monsters.
The abandonment of this sword, as well as the existence of some of the Symbiote, give Knull a reason to go to the universe of the MCU. The Necrosword is an important tool, and leaving it behind for no one to use can be seen as an affront to Knull. It would make sense that Knull would have to travel across the multiverse to put his plot together and that this would lead to cooperation between various multiversal Spider-Man heroes.
Spider-Man 4 Can Draw Together Two Major MCU Themes At Last Some MCU Themes And Stories Have Not Seemed To Contribute To The Larger Story Close In addition to the multiverse, recent phases of the MCU have tied into larger, more powerful forces in the universe. Eternals has left several threads hanging, and Thor: Love and Thunder has expanded the role of gods in the Marvel Universe. The latter film introduced Hercules and Zeus, among others, and many audiences are still waiting for those and other Marvel post-credit scenes to be followed up on. Introducing Knull, a spiritual, god-like figure, could help to align these stories.
With Knull traveling across the multiverse while being considered a god by the Symbiotes, these two distinct themes from Phases 4 through 6 could be effectively tied together. Like Gorr, Knull has a history of killing gods, although Knull"s power is much greater. Exploring spirituality and the themes of godly Pantheons while tying that into the Multiverse Saga could be extremely effective. These big, outsized themes and stories could lead into an excellent new Spider-Man sequel.
Spider-Man 4 Can See The Spider-Men Fulfill Their Multiversal Role The Various Spider-Men Can Save The Entire Multiverse Close Many of Sony"s Spider-Man adjacent films have not been successful, although films like Morbius and Madame Web have set up the concept of Spider-Totems in the universe. Following this, the introduction of Knull could give a reason for all of the Spider-Men from across the universe to have to come together to stop him. This could fulfill the details of the Spider-Totems, with the three heroes appearing as Totems of the spider-god Anansi, and seeing them become protectors of the multiverse.
A Spider-Man: No Way Home sequel that saw the return of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire would be exciting, and would certainly make a great deal of money at the box office. However, there are meaningful story connections that could tie in as well. With the Spider-Verse films changing the outlook on Spider-Man, the hero has quickly become perhaps the best in the entire Marvel canon with whom to tell multiversal stories. Using Knull could help to make this come across effectively.
Related 10 Reasons Knull Can Save Sony's Spider-Man Universe Knull has been confirmed as a major antagonist in Sony"s upcoming Venom: The Last Dance, and he could be just what Sony"s faltering franchise needs.
Spider-Man 4 is likely to see various Spider-Man heroes and villains coming together across the multiverse to defeat Knull after all of these details have come out. Knull is a major force in the Spider-Man recent canon, and would make an excellent and unique threat for the upcoming film. With cooperation between Sony and Disney being an essential component in the upcoming Spider-Man 4, there is reason to hope that the team have found the best story to do this in the most effective and satisfying way.
Spider-Man Homecoming 4 Spider-Man: Homecoming 4 is the first sequel to the MCU's Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland as the titular wall-crawler. After wiping his identity for the public's memory in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker continues his crime-fighting adventures without the aid of Iron Man technology or the support of his former allies.
